The RCA Unveils a new Ritmueller 188
High Performance Grand Piano
Ritmueller Grand Piano
Moir Pianos and
Pearl River donate
grand piano to the Rotary Centre for
the Arts

A special event was held on Mothers Day, May 9, 2010, in celebration of the major gift of a Brand New Ritmueller 188 High Performance Grand Piano from Moir Pianos and Pearl River Piano Group Co.

Moir Pianos and Pearl River Piano Group Co.donated this beautiful piano, replacing the instrument formerly in the Atrium. It was unveiled in a special donor appreciation celebration with performances by some of the Okanagan's finest pianists, Olga Osipova and Neville Bowman, who were pleased to be part of the celebrations.

The President of Pearl River U.S.A. visited the Rotary Centre for the Arts last summer with David Rooksby, the District Sales Manager of the North-Western USA and Canada along with Richard Moir, as part of a Canada wide tour to determine  the state of the piano industry for the Pearl River Piano Plant. They toured the Rotary Centre for the Arts facility full of activity, including a drumming circle and the Pearl River grand piano in use in the atrium.

Richard Moir has since brought David Rooksby back to the Rotary Centre for the Arts during his last few visits. These visits, combined with Moir's relationship with Pearl River Piano Group and the Rotary Centre for the Arts, has led to obtaining an exchange of our piano with the most current premium German designed Ritmueller 188 grand piano.  The Pearl River Piano Group Co. has come to believe that the Ritmueller 188 grand piano would be an excellent performance showpiece placement in the Atrium at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.

Moir Pianos have been involved with the RCA from the beginning, providing excellent quality Pearl River Pianos for the Centre. As well, they loan pianos in support of our many special events held throughout the 8 years of our operation. Executive Director, Tracie Ward says, "The RCA is very fortunate to have Richard and Ruth Moir as friends of the Centre."

The Rotary Centre for the Arts would like to thank each of our key contributors and supporters for their years of commitment and on-going support. Since its inception over 15 years ago, the RCA has grown into a thriving multi-disciplinary arts centre, offering a variety of programming and events year-round. With the support of our key contributors, annual fundraisers and the RCA Endowment Fund, the Rotary Centre for the Arts continues to offer quality programming to all ages in the community.

The Daily Courier Performance Court and the Arts Common - outdoors between the Kelowna Art Gallery and the Rotary Centre for the Arts - will come alive on the evening of Tuesday August 10th with artists and music!

The Kelowna Art Gallery, along with the Okanagan Symphony, and the Rotary Centre for the Arts, presents Arts Picnic.  Hosted by CBC Daybreak's Alya Ramadan, this is a free event with family entertainment for everyone starting at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, August 10 on the Arts Common. Demonstration and hands-on areas with professional visual artists will be featured, accompanied by the music by the National Youth Orchestra. Families and visitors can watch the artists at work, participate in some of the hands-on activities, and enjoy a picnic at one of the long, country-style tables and chairs which will be set up across the site.

The event will open with a Community Drumming Circle, which will fascinate audiences with its powerful ability to communicate through rhythm. The Kelowna Art Gallery will be working with a number of artists in the community to bring together an exciting array of visual arts activities to animate the Arts Common. The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra is presenting a full evening outdoor concert by The National Youth Orchestra of Canada, which consists of ninety-four young professional music students, who are in Kelowna as part of their cross-country tour. Both orchestras are celebrating their 50th anniversaries.

Okanagan Street Food will be on-site, plus food and beverages from the RCA's ArtWalk Bistro will be available throughout the late afternoon and evening. Audience members can either augment their home-packed picnics, or simply purchase terrific food from the vendors. Wine and beer can be purchased and consumed on the patio of the RCA.

The City of Kelowna, through its Cultural Services Branch, has supported the event with a $10,000 project grant, matched by in-kind contributions from the Kelowna Art Gallery, Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, and the Rotary Centre for the Arts.
