A local and international artist, Cherie Hanson minored in art while earning her B.A., B.Ed., and M.A. Cherie explores the world of art by focusing on digital photographic art, poetry and painting. In 2007, Cherie was awarded a certificate of recognition titled "Beyond Walls" at the Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art in Italy. more

We would like to welcome Joanne Onrait, Sandra Chapman and Debra Martin, three new artists to take residence in Studio 205, located on the 2nd floor of the Rotary Centre for the Arts.
All three women are painters who incorporate a variety of applications including acrylic, oil and multi-media. Their subject matter includes landscape, still life and abstract works. In addition to painting, Debra also creates unique, artistic jewellery.
Sandra Chapman shows her work and is represented by Gallery 421 in Kelowna and Effusion art gallery in Invermere BC. She also takes commissions and has an online gallery at www.sandrachapman.ca. Joanne Onrait takes commissions and sells her work through her online gallery at www.joanneonrait.ca. Debra Martin shows her work and is represented by Gallery 421 in Kelowna.
Each is a member of Impressions art group, and has been since its inception
5 years ago. They show and sell their work at it's annual exhibit.
All three artists have completed courses through Okanagan University College (now UBCO) Fine Arts Department including drawing, painting, two-dimensional studies, art history and art theory. They also have attended numerous workshops to further their understanding of various artistic processes.
These very talented artists are moving in May 1st. We invite you to stop by the centre and visit them in their new space!

This Toronto 5 piece Blues band, infuses elements of funk, soul, and R&B into their strong blues backbone. Georgia-raised lead singer JOHN MAYS has had a storied career that began in the Southern gospel tradition, crossing over into Doo-Wop, R&B and Blues, not to mention a stint with the Godfather Of Soul JAMES BROWN.
Considered one of the top blues harp players in the country, multi-instrumentalist
AL LERMAN is a journeyman musician who is the founder and leader of this popular blues band.He's garnered several MAPLE BLUES AWARD nominations for both his harp and saxophone playing as well as his song-writing.
FATHEAD's red-hot guitar man, TEDDY LEONARD, has played the Michael Pickett Band, Morgan Davis, Colin Linden, The Band's Rick Danko and Garth Hudson and hosted the Toronto Blues Society guitar workshops several times. In describing Leonard's playing, recent reviews have been peppered with words such as "exquisite", "tasty" and "molten". Guitar & Harmonica Workshops

These are demonstration style workshops, however you are welcome to bring instruments and to practice toward the end of the session.
Course # 501d - Al Lerman (Harmonica)will demonstrate different styles learned from the masters; playing in different keys on one harp; importance of tone, groove and phrasing; playing in major and minor etc.
Course #501e - Teddy Leonard (Guitar) will teach the importance of groove and tone as well as various phrasing, solo techniques etc.

Mural Workshop for Teens
Paint a mural with two very inspiring artists
Leave your mark! Create a mural with accomplished artists Jorden and David Doody - the 4th mural of it's kind at the Rotary Centre for the Arts!
Jorden and David work with the group to design and paint a mural, which will cover one cement wall inside the set shop of the RCA. Learn how to create and project an image, work with brushes, rollers and paint pens to master this art form, without being chased away by large dogs or a night patrol. more
