Calling all Artists and Art Organizations!

The Kelowna Visual and Performing Arts Centre Society has announced that a studio space will become available at the Rotary Centre for the Arts May 1st, 2010.

Visual artists and art organizations in the community interested in full-time studio space are encouraged to apply in writing by April 15, 2010.  more

 

Resident Artist moves on...
the RCA says goodbye to Cherie Hanson

Cherie Hanson
Local and established international artist,
Cherie Hanson of Studio 205, will be moving on
at the end of April.

Cherie has been a Rotary Centre for the Arts resident artist since 2005, responsible for contributions to the monthly ArtCrawl events in the building. She will continue to explore the world of art by focusing on digital photographic art, poetry and painting and can be reached at www.cheriehanson.com.

Cherie will be missed by the RCA staff and clientele; we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.

Culture Connection: April 19th - 23rd
Brings students to Kelowna's Cultural District
Rotary Centre for the Arts
During BC Arts & Culture Week, an estimated 300 students from local middle and high schools will rotate through three venues: the Kelowna Art Gallery, the
Rotary Centre for the Arts
, and the Kelowna Museums.

Each venue will introduce the students to the various career and volunteer opportunities, through activities and tours, and allow students to explore how culture is expressed through the arts.

Taste of Culture is a partnership between the Kelowna Art Gallery, the Kelowna Museums, the Rotary Centre for the Arts, and the City of Kelowna.

After years of recording with artists as diverse as Raine Maida and Celine Dion, and touring extensively with musicians ranging from Chantal Kreviazuk to Tom Cochrane,
Kevin Fox is ready to step from side-stage back into the spotlight as a frontman with his Trio.

Kevin combines his signature instrument - the Cello, which he skillfully bows, plucks, taps and loops, with his charismatic voice, to create a lush and captivating musical tapestry of cello-driven folk/pop. The production is fresh and innovative, embracing pop sensibilities within the world of classical orchestration and electronics. Listen

Orchard Valley Quilters Guild
Formed by a small group of Kelowna quilters in 1982, the Guild currently averages 160 members.

The Guild has made and donated hundreds of quilted items to local community services. Members work on individual projects or donation quilts, take professional development classes, show, travel, and enjoy the friendship of the group. more

Featured guest artists
Andrew Kiss, Angela Morgan, John Einerssen, Vance Theoret and Sandra Chapman will be in attendance on May 7th and 8th.

Two original pieces of art valued at $1,000 given by Vance Theoret and John Einerssen will be raffled in support of the Kelowna Food Bank. In addition, a percentage of sales generated from this event will be donated. A Food Receptacle will be available for anyone wishing to make a non-perishable donation.

Sage-ing with Creative Spirit
Sage-ing with Creative Spirit
This exciting new program is being held every Tuesday in the Painting & Drawing Studio at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.

Tuesday Sessions Starting April 6:

9:30-11:30 am  HeART FIT classes in Spontaneous Process Painting
A co-op group initiated by Karen Close which runs throughout the year. Supplies are available for your first class or bring your own.

11:30 am-1:30 pm  Expressing Your Personal Story led by Devon Muhlert - writer, musician, poet, music director and songwriter.

12 noon -2 pm  Singing Into Spirit
With the perspective that rhythm, vibration and frequency are the components of all matter, Alexandra Babbel will facilitate a light-hearted workshop combining music appreciation with experiential spontaneous song towards inner spiritual healing.  Workshop participants require no previous musical experience and will find humour and friendship at the foundation of this course. (Room to be announced)

1:30-3:30 pm  No straight lines: Basic Drawing classes led by Tina Siddiqui. Materials required: drawing paper/newsprint paper, few sticks of willow charcoal, pencil, eraser, drawing board, source pictures, land/seascapes, buildings and interiors, faces and people.
