| Harry Manx - New Album & Live Recording |
 |
|
If you love the blues, mixed with a dash of classical Indian ragas, then you won't want to miss Harry Manx perform at the Rotary Centre for the Arts on October 1st at 7:30 p.m.
It's the live setting, Manx says, that the bridge between "heavenly" India and "earthy" American blues is most effectively built.
"I love to see Indian and Western music working together and its effect on the audience" explains Manx. "My goal has always been to draw the audience as deep as possible into the music."
A successful touring performer, Manx has brought his "breathtaking" solo shows across Canada and into the US, Australia, and Europe. Playing the Mohan Veena, lap steel, harmonica, stomp box, and banjo, Manx never fails to envelop audiences with his warm vocals and hauntingly beautiful melodies.
A prolific artist, Manx released his ninth album "Bread and Buddha" earlier this week. Two years in the making, the album was self produced with help from Juno-award winning engineer John "Beetle" Bailey. "Bread and Buddha" includes ample use of piano, organ, scored strings, drums and bass, giving the songs a lushness and maturity, much like seasoned wine.
With several esteemed awards under his belt, Manx new album has already received favourable reviews. In support of the new album, CBC Canada Live will be taping Manx's performance at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. We look forward to seeing you at this exciting event!
Tickets can be purchased online at Select Your Tickets, by visiting the RCA Box Office, or by calling (250) 717- 5304. Don't forget to check out the hot new getaway package at www.prestigeinn.com where visitors can "Stay with the Stars."

| Light and Metal - Innovative Dance/Theatre |
 |
|
Event: Light and Metal
Date: October 16th at 7:30PM
Price: $30 adult / $10 student / Pick a 4-Pak $100
Free Preshow: Mission Dance Company at 6:30PM
Light and Metal is on the road with Made in BC and is coming to the Rotary Centre for the Arts!
Featuring SURGE, presented by MovEnt and bANGER, presented by Tara Cheyenne Performance, Light and Metal is a powerful double bill of innovative dance/theatre performances.
Choreographed by Day Helesic, SURGE is a construct of bold movement, industrial sounscape and electric emotion that scrutinizes the power of physical industry.
Moving hard and intensely in a constant current of fierce physicality, five dancers discover what powers them and what gives them power. Through dogged determination and enduring effort, SURGE discovers the costs and rewards of that power in all of its incarnations.
Joining MovEnt, the Tara Cheyenne Performance presents bANGER: The Power Hour, an examination of social alienation as perceived through the lens of a head banging teenager. A dance/theatre hybrid performance, bANGER sheds light on the social reject and reconciles the differences between us and him.
In 2005, bANGER was the winner of the People's Choice Award at the Dancing on the Edge Festival. It was also listed as one of the Vancouver Sun's best shows of 2006 and represented Canada at the London International Festival of Theatre in 2008. Audiences of all ages and backgrounds don't need to know about metal to be blown away by bANGER.
Tickets can be purchased online at Select Your Tickets, by visiting the RCA Box Office, or by calling (250) 717-5304. For more info on Light and Metal visit www.movent.ca or www.taracheyenne.com

| Fay Wolfenden... Turning Glass into ART |
 |
|
If you haven't already visited the fabulous ladies upstairs in the Jewellery Workshop (Studio 203), may we suggest you round-up a group of your best friends for a class with glass artist Fay Wolfenden?
With over 30 years of experience working with glass, Fay honed her craft in Montreal and Toronto where she specialized in commissioned pieces and teaching others the wonder of glass.
Each of Fay's pieces are created and designed from an initial sketch, ending with a finely polished piece of art. Over the years her work has expanded to include glass bead-making and glass fusing, as well designing and constructing glass panels and lamps.
Participants can choose from a variety of specialty glass courses taught by Fay, including Pendant Making using Dichroic Glass, Stained Glass Wind- chimes and Lampworking (glass bead making).
Lampworking, one of Fay's latest passions, involves using glass imported from Venice, Italy. Each bead is made in a torch, one at a time, and then carefully annealed in a kiln. One-of-a-kind bracelets, earrings and necklaces are then designed using the beads.
