RCA Announces '09-10 Spotlight Series

The Rotary Centre for the Arts continues to offer music lovers an unforgettable concert experience with the 2009/2010 Spotlight Series presented by Tree Brewing. Featuring some of Canada's top touring artists, the new season has something for everyone!

Audiences can enjoy everything from smooth jazz & blues, hot world fusion, classical pop, dance theatre... even burlesque! The new season strives to include a mix of regional and national musical talent in a variety of performing styles to create a truly eclectic experience.

Again this year, guests are encouraged to visit the Rotary Centre for the Arts before each main-stage performance for the FREE Local Artist Pre-show. The Pre-show is a great way for visitors to experience a variety of local professional artists, while enjoying easy parking and a beverage from the bistro.

Following each show, guests can also choose to stay for the Meet 'n' Mingle Post-show. The Post-show includes a short chat and an autograph signing session with the featured artist, moderated by Phil Johnson of AM 1150's Early Edition.

Tickets to all twelve concerts are now available for purchase. Single tickets are $30 per person and $10 per student. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, by phone at 250-717-5304 or by visiting www.selectyourtickets.com.

For those interested in purchasing tickets for more than one performance, the Pick a 4-Pak is available for only $100. The 4-Pak must include tickets to four different concerts and can include tickets to Sunshine Theatre and Homes for the Holidays. Spaces Still Available for Mural Project

Don't miss this final chance to sign up for the Mural Project! Accomplished artists Jorden and David Doody will work with students to design and paint an amazing mural, which will cover one cement wall inside the music room at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.

Throughout this interactive project, students will use brushes, rollers and paint pens, while learning the techniques and styles used to create a large mural.

Project dates are: Fri & Sat, August 7, 8 & 14, 15 from 4-8 p.m. Ages 12 to 18 are welcome. To learn more about the mural project visit www.RotaryCentrefortheArts.com. To view a time-lapse video of the '08 mural creation click here.

Arts Blast Camps for Kids a Success!

Throughout July, the RCA welcomed over 100 kids to the Summer Arts Blast Program. During camp, kids ages 5-11 enjoyed a full week of fun activities in Art, Drama, and Dance.

On the final day of camp, participants presented an amazing Dr. Seuss themed showcase. The showcase featured artwork, drama performances and even a dancing dragon designed by the kids!

We would like to thank all of the instructors, volunteers and participants for making this year's Summer Arts Blast such a success. We look forward to seeing you at Arts Blast 2010!

Central Okanagan Foundation's Survey

This is your invitation to share your views as a Vital Signs Grader for the Central Okanagan Foundation's Vital Signs 2009 report!

Vital Signs is an annual report being undertaken by the Central Okanagan Foundation that will review the vitality of the region. The report will present data and perceptions on 11 key areas of community life - areas that are critical to the region's quality of life and well-being.

A key part of this project involves surveying members of the community - from civic life, community service providers, business leaders, and other informed residents -- to gather their perceptions and opinions about the region in which you live, work, learn and play.

Please click here to complete the survey. It's only 15 questions and won't take long to complete, but it's an important part of our reporting on the Central Okanagan region for Vital Signs 2009.
